With her brother-in-law in fast pursuit, the last thing Charity wants is help from a man, especially a religious one, but she has no choice. After Elias’ heart was broken by a sordid woman who nearly ruined his life, he seeks a godly woman pure as the virgin sands of the Caribbean. He believes he has found such a woman in Charity. Until he discovers she is a murderer and is now faced with two choices: letting her go or turning her in to the authorities.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
I loved how she went back and did Charity's Story!! She was always the sister you heard about in the other books. She was married, had money and seemed to be well set and the happy sister. Boy was that wrong!!! In Charity's Cross you get to become familiar with how Charity's husband had been treating her for all those years. What all she had to endure in her young life. When she has the opportunity to escape and see her sisters she takes it without looking back! Swearing off men Charity jumps on a ship to find her father and sisters.

Elias Dutton, one of my favorite things about him, is that he ties in from another one of Marylu's stories! I love how she does this!!! (when you read the book you will understand) He is a man from a past that has tried to stay on the right and narrow ever since his big 'mistake' as a young man. But he just can't help himself when it comes to saving beautiful damsels in distress. He rescues Ms. Charity from the waters and proceeds to help her make her way to her family...but it's not without difficulties along the way. From Spies on the inside, and waring of feelings in his heart, Will Elias ever get Charity to the colonies? And will Charity's precious secret threaten all she has come to hold dear?

This is a great book that you can either read as part of the series (which I recommend because it is that good!) or you can read it as a stand alone. Either way, READ IT!
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
This is one of those books you love to read, because it marries old favorite characters with a new generation. You get to hear about everyone in the Legacy of the Kings Pirates series! Plus you get to hear and learn about a new generation, the children :)
When Morgan is having a hard time with health issues, a horrible boyfriend, and a little to much to drink...along with being at a Pirate re-inactment on board the Reckoning. Little did she know she was stepping directly into her past/future. It all starts when she is intrigued by a painting done of the great pirate Rowan on board his Ship the Reckoning. And after that it gets a little hazy for her.
Rowan doesn't understand this woman that has appeared on his ship. All he knows is that he likes her. but she is distracting him from his mission.
Marylu has done it again where she has brought together the past with the present in a wonderful Pirate based book! I love how she does this. The two in this book fight their attraction. And even though they are both confused out of their minds over what is happening they start to form a friendship and mutual trust and understanding that has them helping each other out through out the whole book. In the end this book has some plot twists that I think will surprise you!
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
One thing I love about Dee Henderson's works is that she is very good about making a rounded storyline. That and I love how she brings characters in from other books in her series. It helps you get to hear from some of your favorite characters while getting to know new ones! I love that about her! She had a few cameo's from some of the O'Malley Group in this book and I loved it!!!! It's one of my all time favorite series to read! I read it over and over again and cry every time when it comes time for Jennifer to pass. makes me sad just thinking about it.
In Taken, Dee henderson is not gonna disappoint. Everything you loved from her other books is present in this new one! I am absolutely in love with it! if there was one thing I would prefer, it would be that she was able to release way more books. lol. for me it takes to long to get the next one. but when it comes out, boy is it worth it.
IN this new book, you have Michael who has had tragedy happen in his past with him and his daughter. and he is just now starting to get it back together completely. that is until Shannon is literally sitting outside his hotel room one night when he was supposed to be on his way to dinner with some friends...who are trying to set him up on a blind date.
Shannon has finally gotten away from her kidnappers, and it has been years. The one person she believes she can trust happens to be Michael, because of how she has seen him cope with his daughter being kidnapped as well.
As Michael helps Shannon make her way back home, he learns more about the woman sitting next to him, along with himself on the long car ride back to Chicago. He learns just how much Shannon has been doing to help the people around her the past few years that she has been missing. And just how much they will end up helping each other in the end of this adventure.
Like I said, I loved this book and I would highly recommend it to any and everyone!

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
At first, this book wasn't what I was thinking or honestly wanting to read. I love the author (she is one of my favorites) and she is known for her pirate books. So when I saw the title I was thinking cool! Pirate and Mermaid all in one! Yes at first I was slightly disappointed, but I didn't stay that way for long! I learned some awesome new folk lores about mermaids, along with reading a great story based off of the gospel.
Perdita is the mermaid in this story, she wasn't born into being a mermaid but was cursed. She had been cursed into eternity until she can find someone that loves her enough to willingly die for her. Imagine going centuries looking for the one person that could and would do that for you. Oh and theres a twist but you'll have to read the book to find out ;)
Savion is a sailor on the king's mission with a 'power' to know when people are in danger. He was sent on a mission to save a soul, and then he could return to the kingdom with his father. Only problem is....He doesn't know where who or how he is supposed to save this person. All he knows is once he does he will be called home. So he has no time to be distracted by any kind of female...especially a beautiful one, being hurt one to many times in the past.G.R.I.T.S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/13917106226242867503noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5396544149118324592.post-60540123622702809142014-07-25T07:26:00.000-07:002014-07-25T07:26:14.784-07:00Full Steam AheadFull Steam Ahead by Karen Witemeyer

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
What I love most about Karen's writings is that they are connected in story, but they are all also stand alone books. You don't have to read them all in order to understand the latest book. That is a rare gift these days.
In Full Steam ahead Nicole is trying to help her family keep their legacy. But at the possible cost of her own life. When there was a break in at home and the thiefs threatened her parents, she decided to take off for New Orleans...Only she never quite makes it there. Instead she stumbles on a little town where Darius is holing out at a mansion, and everyone in the town thinks he's a cooooook. When Nicole show's up to be his secretary, he has some reservations about her, just because of the way she dresses and her form of speech and things. Little did he know She'll be the best thing to happen to him.
Will Nicole be able to help Darius past this thing that haunts him day and night, and Will Darius be able to help Nicole return home to her family safe and sounds?

BACK COVER:

Commander Mark Bishop is deliberately low-key: "I'm in the Navy" But commanding the ballistic missile submarine USS Nevada, keeping her crew trained and alert during ninety-day submerged patrols, and being prepared to launch weapons on valid presidential orders carries a burden of command like few other jobs in the military. And at a time when tensions are escalating around the Pacific Rim, the Navy is glad to have him.
Mark wants someone to come home to after sea patrols. The woman he has in mind is young, with a lovely smile, and very smart. She's a civilian, yet she understands the U.S. Navy culture. And he has a strong sense that life with her would never be boring. Bust she may be too deep in her work to see the potential in a relationship with him.
Gina Gray would love to be married. She has always envisioned her life that way. A breakup she didn't see coming, though, has her focusing all her attention on what she does best-ocean science research. She's on the cusp of a major breakthrough, and she needs Mark Bishop's perspective and help. Because what she told the Navy she's figured out it only the beginning. If she's right, submarine warfare is about to enter a new and dangerous chapter.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
Dee Henderson has done it again! It's a fantastic read! Even though we have to wait longer with her for new books than most authors. I say it's well worth the wait. What you get to learn about the Navy and things is amazing! I love when authors help you understand what our military goes through day n day out.
The love story between these two is so sweet :) He's a widower and she has always wanted to be married. Only they aren't each other's first choice. They both have other people in mind at first, and then it hits them :)

Getting Gina through to the next great find is Mark's mission right now. Can he do it and convince her that he is the guy for him?

Great read, I highly recommend it!
BACK COVER:

Her Courage and Her Heart will be Tested in Ways she Never Expected...

Beth Thatcher has spent her entire life in the safe, comfortable world of her family, her friends, and the social outings her father's wealth provides. But Beth is about to leave it all behind to accept a teaching position in the rugged foothills of western Canada. Inspired by her aunt Elizabeth, who went west to teach school several years ago, and gently encouraged by her father, Beth resolves to put her trust in God and bravely face any challenge that comes her way.
But the conditions in Coal Valley are even worse than she'd feared. A recent mining accident has left the town grieving and at the mercy of the mining company. The children have had very little prior education, and many of the locals don't even speak English. There isn't even a proper schoolhouse. In addition, Beth's heart is torn between two young men- both Mounties, one a lifelong friend and the other a kind quiet man who comes to her aid more than once.
Despite the many challenges, Beth is determined to make a difference in the rustic frontier town. But when her sister visits from the East, reminding her of all the luxuries she's had to give up, will Beth decide to return to her privileged life as soon as the school year is over?

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
I wasn't sure at first if I would like this book, I'm not very partial to ones set in Canada. But once I got into this book, I have to be honest I kept turning the pages trying to figure out what would happen next! This book is being turned into a movie, whether it is for TV or not I'm not entirely sure. But I can't wait to see it when it comes out. These two authors make a great team! They have you routing for both young me in Beth's life, while you are secretly hoping she just makes it through the year.
It has its comedic points, I mean a privileged girl comes to a town that has know tragedy from a mine collapse leaving it pretty much without any men. The school is held in a saloon, and there isn't even a bathroom! lol. It is fun to see this world through Beth's Eyes and read how she falls in love with the town and the children, and leaves you hoping she will be coming back next term!
Fired Up by: Mary Connealy
Trouble in Texas book 2

BACK COVER:

When a doctor who attracks danger falls for a cook determined to make it on her own there's going to be trouble in Texas!

Glynna Greer came west as a mail-order bride and ended up in a bad situation. Now her husband, Flint, is dead, and she's determined to make a go of it on her own. In a town full of men, Glynna decides she can support her two children by opening a dinner- never mind that cooking is not her greatest talent.
Dare Riker is a doctor who saves lives, but someone seems determined to end his. It may have something to do with the traitors he dealt with during the Civil War, or it might be related to the recent incident with Flint Greer and the ranch. Whoever the culprit is, he or she seems really fired up, and Dare can't let his guard down for a moment-which is challenging, since right now he's trying to win the heart of the recently widowed Glynna.
Though his doctoring business is booming due to Glynna's questionable cooking, Dare seems to encounter unexpected dangers wherever he goes. There's the avalanche. And the fire. And then the shadowy figure with a knife. Can Dave survive it all long enough to convince Glynna to take another chance on love?

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
Another smash hit for Mary Connealy! I thought it was well done, even though a few parts of it are kinda cliche. I mean the mail-order bride bad situation, the not being able to cook, widowed....But all in all a great book. I loved reading and waiting what thing would happen next to the Dare. He seemed to always be getting into some situation or another. And then what food would Glynna try to pass off as acceptable for this meal. Between the love brewing with Glynna and Dare, and the antics of the men and children in the town, this book is a fun read to curl up with a cup of caffeine of your choice and just enjoy.

If you are looking for fun Historical Romances that have some cowboys or handsome men from the west in them, you are looking at the right author! Mary Connealy has some great characters.
Ladies of Caldwell County Book 3

BACK COVER:
She Wants the Freedom of the Open Plains. He Wants the Prestige of a Successful Career. Neither Is Ready for What Comes Instead.
The train in Garber, Texas, is supposed to bring life's next victory to Nicholas Lovelace. Instead it gets held up by robbers who are thwarted by the last person Nick ever expected-Anne Tillerton from back home in Prairie Lea.
Anne's been hiding away as a buffalo hunter. She's only in Garber to find their runaway cook, but the woman flees-leaving Anne with her infant son. With Nick the only person Anne knows in Garber, the two form an unlikely team as they try to figure out what to do with the child.
But being in town means acting and dressing for polite society- and it's not going well for Anne. Meanwhile, Nick's work is bringing new pressures, and being seen with a rough-around-the-edges woman isn't helping his reputation. Caught between their own dreams, a deepening relationship, and others' expectations, can the pair find their way to love?

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
To be honest, this book goes really slow at first. I almost gave up on it. I prefer my books to be a little more fast pace. But if you stick it out, about halfway through it gets good. Once the two form their alliance, it starts heating up :). Anne starts working for Nick and pretty soon neither can keep the other out of their mind. When their relationship starts to bloom, it is really put to the test between different trials to both of them. Anne with her abusive past and her inability to trust anyone but men specifically. And with Nick wanting to be something he never truly was.
I think Regina Jennings is a
good author, and I would love to read more of her work.
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
Elusive Hope is a continuation of Fallen Dreams. I love this series since they are from the South in the book, about from where I am from :) which always makes it a good read :). Do y'all remember Magnolia Scott? She was that prissy whinny girl from the first book that liked to flirt and decided to try drinking? Yea she's back! lol But she is trying to change, unfortunately her parents don't really approve of this change or condone it. She decides to leave for that fancy pants 'Fiance' She says she has back in the states, but the only person she can find that is going that direction is Hayden Gale. A man she isn't very fond of.

Hayden Gale, all he is wanting to do is find his Father and have his revenge. It's the only reason for being in Brazil in the first place, Not to babysit some rich spoiled little girl. Until he realizes what he can earn from this 'position'. They both start bluffing each other and using each other on their way back to the states. Little did they know what trials would be waiting for them on the Journey. Or how closely knit their lives truly were.
Trouble in Texas Book 1

BACK COVER:
Swept away when her wagon train attempts a difficult river crossing, Ruthy MacNeil isn't terribly upset at being separated from the family who raised her. All they've ever done is work her to the bone. Alive but disoriented, she's rescued by Luke Stone... so unfortunately, there are more chances to die in her immediate future.
Like is on a mission to reclaim to reclaim the ranch stolen from his family. But the men currently on the property won't let it go without a fight. Luke plans to meet up with friends who will help him take back the land, and since he can't just leave Ruthy in the middle of nowhere, she's going to have to go with him.
But the more time Luke spends around the hardworking young woman, the more he finds himself thinking of things besides revenge. Will Ruthy convince him to give up his destructive path and be swept away by love?

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS???
Another great book from Mary Connealy!!! Once you get into this book, you'll realize that it is an off shoot of her series the Kincaid Bride's, Seth's wife is the sister of Luke Stone. ( I thought this was pretty awesome personally :))
Ruthy MacNeil was taken in by a family when her parents died, and she's been living with them ever since. They work her to the bone, and do nothing for themselves. So when they decide to head out west, she of course has to come with. She's planning her escape until they come across a river that will send her going in a different direction than she had planned.
Luke is coming home to reclaim his ranch. And along the way, he finds a filthy girl floating in the river. Good conscience doesn't allow him to just leave her, and any town would be taking him to far out of his way from getting home. So the girl goes with him.
Little do both of them know that Ruthy is wading into the fight right along side Luke. And Luke doesn't want her there. He can't deny that she is a hard worker, and basically just as good as him in the tracking and shooting departments. But she's a woman, and can't be put in danger right?? :) wrong...she helps anyway. Will her stubbornness ruin the love that can bloom here? Or will it make this team that much stronger?

BACK COVER:
THEY LEFT EVERYTHING BEHIND TO BUILD A NEW SOUTHERN UTOPIA...
Colonel Blake Wallace has seen enough death to last a lifetime. Weary and disillusioned, he slumps beneath the weight of defeat and loss. With his entire family murdered by the North and his name appearing on a list of officers wanted for war crimes, Blake organizes a shipload of southerners who, like him, long to escape the horrors of war and start a new life in a verdant land called Brazil.
Eliza Crawford can barely remember the days of her youth spent in opulence and comfort at her Georgian home. She can't help but wonder how different her life would be had she not met her late husband. Stanton Watts, a general in the Northern army. Now a war widow, Eliza is rejected by both the North and South. Desperate to keep her marriage a secret and escape her past and pain, she hopes to start over again in Brazil.
But once the voyage begins, troubles abound. Dangers at sea and enemies from within threaten to keep Blake and Eliza from the new life-and love-they long for.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
I love the fact that all the characters from this book are from Georgia! (I happen to be from there) It is so much fun to hear about towns and traditions that I have grown up around, and love. And this story is not an uncommon one, in that this happened a lot after the war between the states. Once the North won, the Southerners became 'prisoners' in their own towns. And there were groups that tried to escape from this by sailing away to Brazil. This is why I love historical fiction, You get a great story, but you also get to know a little more about your heritage.
Eliza Crawford. The poor thing, disowned by her family for marrying a Northerner, and once her husband died, disowned by the family that never really accepted her. She has sworn off marriage, and has decided to use her medical experience to help others in Brazil. But can she keep her secret of being a Yankee's Widow for long? And what if someone recognizes her? And what of her heart that isn't listening to her head when it comes to the Colonel?
Colonel Blake Wallace. A Wanted man for his service in the War, and a man running from the war and the horrors found there. His entire family murdered, and now there's a price on his head. And instead of just taking himself and fleeing, he decides to help other Southern families escape from this 'new life'. So he advertises a expedition to Brazil, he arranges everything. A pastor, doctor, nurse, ect. He makes sure that the colony would have everything that it needs to thrive. And a place for him to hide out without having to worry about using his heart...or so he thought.
I wasn't completely sure about it at first. But once I got into it, I was really surprised. Emma, grew up with her mother and father who's house was an academy for boys. They would take the wealthy family male heirs, and get them ready for college. Being one of the only girls in the house, Emma was the brunt of many pranks and jokes. Including ones from Henry Weston.

After loosing her mother, Emma's father isn't quite the same. So Emma helps out, she basically takes over the academy, unbeknownst to the families. And they were basically going under until they got this opportunity to teach the youngest Weston children. Who would of thought, that this would bring her and her father back together, and help her realize her heart?

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
This was a GREAT book!!!! I couldn't put it down. Literally! I started reading it before going to bed, thinking I'll just read a couple of chapters and then go to bed....next thing I knew, it was 3 in the morning, and I had to be up the next day for church. So what did I do, I got up, hurried through getting ready, and read some more, and I read some on the way to church, and finally finished it on the way home from church. :) lol, it really was an edge-of-your-seat kind of book. The suspense was killing, and the romance was good. I loved how she made it so real. It wasn't the normal 'mushy-gushy' stuff that you mainly get in romance novels. She had them have many ups and downs, and admitting to not really being able to love, but that they were willing to give what they had to give. (which in and of itself is a testament to love)
Quinn is on the run, and she hopes that she has found a place where she can live in peace, until the very thing that she was running from, gets out of jail, and contacts her.
Morgan is also on the run...emotionally and spiritually to an extent. He is grieving and doesn't want anything to do with women other than his daughter...until he helps a girl move a piece of furniture. Little did he know he would be helping her with much more than that.
I'm not going to mention much more of the actually story, because I think it's put together to wonderfully to be told anyother way other than the way the author has written it. So sit back, (make sure you have time to read the whole thing in one sitting) grab your favorite blanket, form of caffeine, and curl up with this book. I promise you wont be disappointed.
Back Cover:
Hoping to escape the poor conditions of 1880 New York, Tarse Raines and her friends Joss and Mary Brubacher and their two children set off for Kansas aboard an unusual wagon train. But when tragedy strikes on the trip across the prairie, Tarsie is thrown into a partnership with Joss that leave them both questioning God and their plans for the future.
As their funds dwindle and nothing goes as plans will they give up and go their separate ways? Or will God use their time in Drayton Valley in a way they never expected?

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
It opens with Mary being sick, and Tarsie thinks the only way she could possibly get better is by getting out of the city. But Joss is against the idea. He doesn't want to leave the city and life he knows, until one day he finds himself backed into a corner and the only way he can get out, is by heading to Kansas with his family...and Tarsie.
Tarsie would never of guessed that her friend and confidant would die before they reached Kansas, the place that they thought would be a new beginning for all of them...together. But will Mary's last dying request put Tarsie in an awkward situation? Will she be able to fulfill it?
This was a good book, I think it's a fun read, that you can pick up on one of those lazy rainy afternoons. Kim always has a way of doing these period pieces with such fun and interesting twist and turns in the plot.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
This turned out to be a really good book!!! At first, I was thinking it wouldn't be that good, because the first chapter or two was a little slow for me...but don't give up on it!!! It turns out beautifully! I loved it!!!! Carissa had a bad experience of marriage, and Tyler just wants to love her and her daughter. Well he got Gloria on his side...now just for the hurting momma. One moment she is warming up to him the next moment she's as cold as ice. Until he has to save her life...which ladies, we all know means she's going to be thinking about the most important people in her life....and he just wants to make sure she is ok. and to tell her how he feels.

PICK UP THIS BOOK, it's worth it!!!

BACK COVER:
Molly Allen lives alone in Portland, but she left her heart back in Tennessee with a man she walked away from five years ago. They had a rare sort of love she hasn't found since.
Ryan Kelly lives in Nashville after a broken engagement and several years on the road touring with a country music duo. He can still hear Molly's voice encouraging him to follow hiw dreams; Molly, whose memory stays with him. At least he can visit The Bridge- and remember the hours he and Molly once spent there.
For Thirty years, Charlie and Donna Barton have run The Bridge, providing the people of middle Tennessee with coffee, conversation, and shelves of good books-even through dismal book sales and the rise of digital books. Then in May, the hundred-year flood swept through Franklin and destroyed nearly every book in the store.
Now the bank is pulling the lease on The Bridge. Despondent and without answers, Charlie considers the unthinkable. Then tragedy strikes, and suddenly, everything changes. In the face of desperate brokenness and lost opportunities, could the miracle of a second chance actually unfold?
The Bridge is a love story set against the struggle of the American Bookstore, a love story you will never forget.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
I think it's really hard to say anything better than the back cover for this book. At least with out giving away the story. This is a great book, I think the love could of unfolded a little sooner, I feel like it was a bit rushed at the end, but all in all this is a great Christmas Book...especially for all of us that love having the book in our hand not on our electronics. I love how the romance takes place in a book store, and how at the end it re-takes place in the book store. It's a great story on how you can not assume anything in life...I highly suggest picking up this book!!!!

BACK COVER:
This Captivating Story takes place in the Sugar Fork Valley of the Great Smoky Mountains wilderness during 1925-1926. Nate Randolph and his five unique daughters wrestle to survive after the death of Callie (his wife and their mother) as well as to maintain their farm, forests, family, and faith against an evil lumber company manager seeking to clear-cut their virgin woodland.
A cast of delightful characters, including gypsy siblings, Cherokee Indians, a granny midwife, a world famous writer, and even a flesh-and-blood Haint, join our heroine, a sixteen-year-old Abbie Randolph, in her life-and-death struggle. Abbie falls in love for the first time, helps run the farm, and mothers her independent sisters while battling to preserve her faith when senseless murders threaten to destroy her family and her way of life.
Will the Randolph family survive intact? Will the farm be saved? Only a miracle could make it happen.
With the march of industrial age, especially industrial lumbering, the roaring twenties Prohibition, the increasing momentum for a national park, and the onslaught of a modern world, trains, and radio communication the traditional life and ways of our Southern High-landers were about to change forever.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
I have to admit, this was an ok book. I think it could have been written better. But I do think it has a good story thought line. I just think it could of had I don't know...something more....
I love how this takes place in the Great Smokey Mountains, and that he writes in their accents. He also puts in the every day struggles that the had at the time.
Right off from the bat, he makes you feel bad for Abbie and her siblings, they have a father that is often gone, to make extra money for them. And Abbie is left to raise the rest of the family. But she has help from some immigrants that her family took in. Abbie is trying to be a mother and a child at the same time. She is being courted by a young man, and she's falling in love with him. And everyone wants to her marry him, and live close by to help with the family.
The lumber company start going to extreme lengths to get the Randolphs land, to the point that Abbie's life is turned upside down, along with her siblings. Now she is forced to come up with everything to keep the farm going. BUt will she be able to continue with it? Or will everyone be shipped off to who knows where?
Seth is willing to make amends. Callie is more interested in shooting him. Can they rekindle their love before one of them goes over the edge?

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
A great end to the Kincaid Bride Trilogy! It's amazing to go through Seth's story, and learn just who he is, and how far he has come. I love being able to see the other Kincaids in the book, and how their life is getting along.
Now Callie Kincaid is a pistol, she isn't sure if she wants to blow a whole through Seth's middle or whether to kiss him. And there is a war going on inside of her. She doesn't want to get re-attached just to loose him agian. But she's glad she has him.
Seth isn't sure what to do, all he knows is that this woman has his name, and he needs to do right by her. So he's willing to make this work, take her out to his house, and get to living. But Callie keeps him at arms length until he remembers her. But he isn't sure he wants to remember everything that's happened to him, and it seems to be the only way to remember her...
A new wife isn't the only surprise on the Kincaid Ranch...There are a few other people that show up on the ranch claiming part ownership...What are the Kincaid's going to do?

Great book, I highly recommend the entire series!!!!
Back Cover:

She thought she could outrun her past...

It is 1811, and the prosperous port city of Charleston is bustling with plantation owners, slaves, and immigrants. Immigrants such as the raven-haired Adalia Winston. But Adalia has a secret: her light skin belies that she is part black and a runaway slave from Barbados. Skilled in herbal remedies, Adalia finds employment with a local doctor and settles into a quiet life, thankful for her freedom but still fearful that her owner will find her.
Born into one of Charleston's prominent families, Morgan Rutledge is handsome, bored-and enamored of the beautiful Adalia, who spurns his advances. Morgan's persistence, however, finally wins, and Adalia is swept into the glamorous world of Charleston high society.
But Adalia's new life comes at a high price-that of denying her heritage and her zeal for God. How far is she willing to go to win the heart of the man she loves? And when her secret is revealed, will that love be enough, or will the truth ruin Morgan and send Adalia back into slavery?

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
I love how this is set just a year before the war of 1812, where one of my favorite women in history shows what she's made of. But this story is not about Dolly Madison or even the en-pending war with Britain. It's about the inner struggle with slavery and with one's own conscience and one's own beliefs. Being from the South, it isn't uncommon to know and hear the history of how the south once was with the slavery. But what I love about this book is that MaryLu shows, that when push comes to shove we are able to make the right decisions.
Morgan can have any woman he wants in Charleston, and he practically has, that is until this woman who is caring for his father's slaves comes stomping into his life. She doesn't treat him like the other women do. She doesn't fawn, bat her eyelashes, talk all sweet and gentle, she just tells it like it is, and is unaffected by his advances. Which like any other male, makes him try even harder!
Adalia, just wants to help other's while hiding from her owner. But this society brat won't leave her alone. He is arrogant, self-centered, and a goody-to-shoes. But there is just something about him, that makes her take pity on him, and say yes to one thing...at least she thought it was just one thing.
But when her secret is let out of the corner, can Morgan swallow his pride, and be willing to loose everything he holds dear, family, connections, society, fortune, in order to have the love of his life? And is Adalia willing to let him give it up for her. And become the wife of a penniless merchant?
It's a great book, and I was able to finish it in 4 hours because I just couldn't put it down. I was sooo disappointed to find out that it was a stand-alone book. I was hoping to hear a little more about this Charleston society, but I'll just have to leave that up to my imagination. Which when reading MaryLu's books, that is a great pleasure I love to do.
So grab your favorite Caffeine addiction and curl up with this great book!
Four Brothers. Four Straws. One Bride.
No one steps on Archer land. Not if they value their life. But when Meredith Hayes overhears a plot to burn the Archer brothers off their ranch, a long-standing debt compels her to take the risk.
Years of constant vigilance harden a man. Yet when Travis Archer comes across a female trespasser with the same vivid blue eyes as the courageous young girl he once aided, he can't bring himself to send her away. And when an act of sacrifice leaves her injured and her reputation in shreds, gratitude and guilt prompt him to attempt to rescue her once again.
Despite the fact that Travis is no longer the gallant youth Meredith once dreamed about, she vows to stand by his side. But will love ever be hers? Or will Travis always see her as merely a short-straw bride?

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
Karen has always been one of my 'go-to' Writers. I love reading her books, and seeing what kind of story she will come up with next. And this was no disappointment. I have been looking forward to this book since I got to read the back cover last year. A tale of young infatuation that will eventually lead to love. Meredith and Travis meet once in the woods, and 12 years later she comes waltzing back into his life.
Travis made a promise to his father to never leave the ranch...and this included his 3 brothers. So for over 12 years the Archer men stay holed up on their land, threatening anyone and everything that comes on their land.
Meredith is an Orphan living with her Uncle who has control of all of her inheritances until she is married. And when her Uncle wants to 'force' her into marriage to help secure his business, she overhears a plot to destroy the Archers. Remembering a heroic act 12 years ago pushes Meredith to do something she had always wanted to do, but was always scared to try. Return to Archer land and warn The handsome boy that helped her all those years ago.
When the Archer men use 'Drawing Straws' to decide her fate...She suddenly feel's like the "Short-Straw". Will she ever feel apart of their family and community? Will she be the one to finally bring the Archer's "out of the woodwork?"
I suggest picking up this book, and enjoy the story...It only took me 3 hours since I couldn't put it down :)

Back Cover:
Mistress Juliana St.John is the lovely, forthright daughter of a prosperous knight's family. Though all expect her to marry the son of her late father's business partner, time and chance interrupt, sending her to the sumptuous but deceptive court of Henry VIII.
Sire Thomas Seymour, brother of the late Queen Jane, returns to Wiltshire to conclude his affairs with Juliana's father's estate and chances upon her reading as lector in the local church. He sees instantly that she would fit into the household of the woman he loves and wants most to please, Kateryn Parr. Juliana's mother agrees to have her placed with Parr for a season and Juliana goes, though reluctantly.
For she keeps a secret.
Juliana has been given the gift of prophecy, and in one vibrant vision she has seen Sir Thomas shredding the dress of a highly born young woman, while it was still on her body, to perilous consequence.
As Juliana accompanies Kateryn Parr to court, Henry's devout sixth queen raises the stakes for all reformers. Support of the firebrand Anne Askew puts the queen and her Ladies in life-threatening jeopardy, as does the queen's desire to influence her husband's -and the realm's- direction and beliefs. Later, without Henry's strong arm, the court devolves to competition, duplicity, and betrayal. The risks could not be higher as Juliana must choose between love and honor, personal fulfillment and sacrifice. Ultimately, her course is driven by a final kept secret, one that undoes everything she thought she knew.

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
At first, I thought I would not like this book. I figured it would be boring, and I wouldn't "find" the time to read it...I was sooo wrong. Once I got started I couldn't put it down!!! It has sooo many twists and turns. Plus great secrets :) lol. Juliana has a beau, but as far as she knows, he doesn't think of her that way. So she heads to court to help Kateryn Parr. Once there King Henry has decided that he has to have Kateryn for his bride. This sends the story a whole new direction. One horrible night, Juliana's life is turned upside down, and all her hopes for the future seem unattainable, but are they? In the end Juliana must keep the biggest secret of her life, and that of another's...
This is a great book, you feel apart of the history, and the story. Sandra takes a whole new twist on a part of British History that is to this day, uncertain. I suggest you pick up a copy of The Secret Keeper, get in your reading nook with your Iced Coffee or Tea :)

BACK COVER:

Rafe Kincaid controls everything in his life...until he meets Julia.

Julia Gilliland has always been interested in the natural world around her. She particularly enjoys studying the fossils and formations in the magnificent cave near her father's house. The cave seems plenty safe-until the day a mysterious intruder steals the rope she uses to climb out.

Rafe Kincaid is a man used to being in control-of himself, his brothers, and his family's ranch. The last thing he expects is to find a woman trapped in the cavern on his land-or to be forced to kiss her!

Rafe is more intrigued by Julia than any woman he's ever known. But when their developing relationship threatens a reconciliation with his brothers, will Rafe have to choose between his family and this new love that could heal his troubled heart and secure his happiness?

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS?
The book opens with Julia being trapped in a cave, with some madman on the loose.
As Rafe is riding past the beginning of all his problems, he hears this distressed voice asking for help...Little did he know, that his life would never be the same from that point on! As he tries to conquer his fears, he climbs down into the deep dark whole, all for a 'damsel in distress'.
Julia knows that she's been rescued, but by who? With it being so dark, she had no idea...Once out of the cave, Rafe takes her back to his house, before taking her home. And that's when it goes for a new turn!
As Rafe tries to take control of Julia and her stepmother's lives, he learns that maybe he shouldn't be in charge of everything...like a woman giving birth? :)
Can the two who have to have everything their way, learn to put their wants aside and just love each other?

Great Book!!! I know I reviewed this series out of order :) but It was really good! And they are literally like days between the two books, so that makes it super fun to read in one sitting :). I highly suggest getting this book and snuggling up with some Sweet Tea (since it's summer) and enjoying this book out in the sun :)

Happy Reading!
