Save My Children by: Emily Wierenga
Back Cover:
Save My Children is the compelling story of a young couple who became mother and father to over 800 abused and neglected children.
Harvey and Elsie Jespersen had one desire: To provide a safe place for any child needing a family.
This is a fictional retelling of the true story of the founders of Bethany Homes for Children. From 1948 to 1992 the Jespersens fostered up to 55 kids at any given time. Their home was a set of old army barracks on 42 acres of Albertan Farmland. Through hard work, determination, and patience, the barracks were transformed into a place of refuge for generations of children. Refusing to take any payment except what parents could afford, Harvey and Elsie depended solely on the power of prayer. Written in honour of Bethany Homes' 60th anniversary, Save My Children tells of love's ability to mend hundreds of broken children through two open hearts.
A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
It's a good book! Heart warming, humbling in fact, to read about a couple who sacrificed everything they had, to do what God called them to do!
Each Chapter is about a different Child that has come through Bethany Homes, and how it affected them. It also shows that when you do what God calls you to do, You won't regret it! You see all the hard work that went into this Home, all the hours of cooking, sewing, tending to the farm...and much more. I have to say, when I was reading it, I did wish the chapters would go on, about each child...you only get a little snippet of what Bethany's did for them! But I recommend Reading this book!!!

I wanted to read more about the children as well. Who knows? Maybe Emily can write another novel expanding on some of the children in the book. I would love to know what happened to some of them.
oh wow!
